Afternoon Tidbits
Hmmmmm....perhaps I will not be buying the new Beastie Boys album tomorrow. At least if I do, it will require a little more research. Donewaiting.com is reporting that you can't rip it onto your computer/MP3 player. How fucking ridunculous is that shit? It seems very counter productive (and out of touch) to me, especially since the B Boys recently made their entire catalog available for download via the iTunes Music Store. Fellas, are you in or are you out? I had actually talked myself into thinking the album would be good too. Byron Crawford doesn't think so much of it.
Cheers to Productshop NYC to pointing us over to Ambitious Outsiders and their Morrissey downloads from his recent tour.
Oh those crazy Joo's.
**UPDATE** Apparently the copyrighted CD's in question will NOT be distributed in the US or the UK, so thankfully this is a moot point. Brewdog kindly pointed us back to the original article about this from Boing Boing.

I had totally the same reaction until I clicked through to the original post on boingboing.net (http://boingboing.net/2004/06/11/new_beasties_disc_ha.html) which clarifies that the DRM will not be on the US or UK releases.
I hate cd-protection schemes!

well, someone who bought the album in rochester had the DRM attached, so i'm not sure it's sorted out yet.
(yes, the CD comes out tomorrow, i imagine their store just put it on the shelves early)
Yeah, it didn't really do anything for me at all. I'd be interested to hear if anybody disagrees.
There was a string on the macaddict boards talking about how the new Velvet Revolver album said the same thing on the cover. Apparently no one on the board actually had any trouble ripping it though. There was also mention of some programs that would "help you around that." And you could buy it from ITMS.
I bought the cd today at my local Best Buy (along with the new Killers) and ripped both in iTunes for my iPodding enjoyment...
cheers
hold down the left shift key while inserting the CD to disable the DRM stuff. Thanks, Microsoft!
I do not know how a Mac works.
