Unbelievable
Word is leaking out through the interweb that ESPN will not renew the contract of David Aldridge (4th item), their head NBA reporter for the past eight years, when his deal is up in August. Instead, the sports network will promote Stephen A-hole Smith to the position. As someone on the Real GM Celtic Messageboard said "They fired the class and kept the ass."
I've been meaning to write a post that details all the bad things about ESPN (Budweiser Hot Seat, Coors Light Six Pack of questions, etc.) but have never gotten around to it. Maybe it's time to put those thoughts to paper.
I'm heading home today to grab some more of my stuff. I'll be back in DC on Friday, although I'm not sure if I'll have time to post anything. If not, have a great weekend and I'll let you know all about my new job, which starts Monday.
I'm with you on the boycott. In fact, I've already cut back on ESPN and barely watch it anymore. Just the graphics and format of Sportscenter is bad enough. The show may be perfectly suited for ADD-afflicted video game addicts, but I'm not enjoying it.
Stephen Smith is the worst. Yelling an opinion doesn't help you make a point, Smith. Enough with the drama, enough with the slang. Just make your damn point and let Greg Anthony talk.
They lost me when they stuck a hours/minutes/seconds countdown to the World Series of Poker or whatever it's called down on the ticker bar. I miss the days when I could spend a leisurely Sunday morning watching SportsCenter, the Sports Reporters, and NFL Game Day without getting boo-ya'd to death.
I'm with you on the ESPN boycott. With the musical acts this week, enough is enough. I'm tired of the SC teasers, too. If you're gonna say, "Kobe takes some jabs at Shaq..NEXT"...there better be something substantive. And, I don't want to wait 40 minutes into the show for your "lead" story if you're going to advertise it coming up next every commercial break.
yeah, stephen a smith, worst. david aldridge, best. how durst was five for fighting being featured on sportscenter last night? who cares if they like hockey, their music sucks.
even worse? those lame ass "short films" they show during sportscenter ... WTF?!?
howevs, i can't boycott. i heart "PTI" too much. and college football will be upon us in a matter of weeks ... how best is the tag team trio of Fowler, Herbstreit and Corso? SO BEST!
I've watched more ESPN this summer than I have in all the years past (not counting actual games). PTI is worth ESPN alone. Around the Horn is better than anything else on at 2PM (Pacific). The 3PM SportsCenter is give or take, depending on the day.
I'm a college basketball freak, so I can never Boycott the channel completely.
But I do rue the rise of SportsCenter culture... the lack of actual originality and relevance.
personally, i'd love to follow you and enact my own boycott of espn...problem is that as a recent transplant to dc from boston, more often than not they've got the market cornered on breaking sports news concerning the teams i care about...case in point: the nomar-to-wrigley deal that jayson stark broke shortly after 4pm today on espn. espn.com was the only site with any substantial info about the deal for almost an hour after they broke the news. as much as i hate to say it, i NEED espn. still, i'd love to see chris berman and stuart scott fed to a pack of wild dogs.
