California, Here We Come!

| |

We're all Phantom Planet up in this bitch. Playoffs start tomorrow. Full schedule here. Notice how the Evil Empire got all their games in primetime?

Derek Lowe was banished to the bullpen but said all the right things in the media. The last roster spot will come down to three pitchers in the bullpen; Curtis Leskanic, Ramiro Mendoza, or Scott Williamson. I'm voting for Williamson, although Leskanic has done well at times this year.

PS - Sucks for the Twins.

Gary Payton will report to training camp today! Today is media day and camp begins in earnest tomorrow! The first pre-season game is Oct 12th! Yay basketball.

In other news, Waltah tells us how many minutes he's gonna get per game:

Stop the presses! I agree with something Peter May wrote. the Chicago Bulls were/are not a dynasty.

Fatty McFattpants, otherwise known as Greg Ostertagg, fell down, went boom. The result? A broken hand.

Get a load of this shite. Micro$oft is trying to label Apple as evil. Bill's mouthpiece, and M$ chief exec, Steve Ballmer opens his mouth and labels iPod users as "thieves"; "We’ve had DRM in Windows for years. The most common format of music on an iPod is 'stolen'." Oh, and music on other MP3 players isn't? Hey fucktard, what OS does Soulseek run on again? I forget. And who was the first company to offer music for legal downloading? If Apple is so "evil", why are they offering the recent Presidential debate at the iTunes Music Store?

The Globe on Morrissey.

"I was at the keg and someone was like, this is Freddy Adu's cup, get out of the way," said Fitzgerald, a freshman letters and sciences major. Freddy Adu, 15 year old party animal.

VA residents, today is your last day to register to vote. Get 'er done!

Did anyone else see this and think it said "NY Times to PEABS; Shut the eff up!"?

Check out Super Furry Guto's iTunes playlist.

The Guardian on Eddie Izzard, my favorite transvestite comedian ever. 'I'm all boy, plus extra girl - not even half and half. I've worked out: I'm all boy, mentally, plus girl-stuff.'

The Tech Cult is so thin-skinned, and Ballmer knows it. Don't get so riled up at Ballmer. He's just lobbying for his own company. Besides, what he said is not factually incorrect. It wasn't unbiased, but neither was it incorrect.

Oh, wait. Shit! They've got the presidential debate up on iTunes?! Give that company a "get out of jail free" pass!!

I'll tell you why they're offering the debate. It's called marketing. It's the same reason many companies market their overall image and not a specific product. Doesn't make them any less or more evil. They're just out for a buck like everybody else, which means they need to build up their brand and public goodwill. Apple does a very good job of it. They've got the world treating them like some kind of do-gooder not-for-profit when in fact they're a public company who is ruled by the dollar just like every other public company.

Balmer was way off base, marketing or not. But Soulseek does run on OS X. You just didn't hear it from me.

Sorry, the Bulls were a dynasty. I hate them too, but they are a dynasty -- they won big and they won a lot. Just because they had l4 loosing seasons before they were good doesn't mean they aren't a dynasty, same is true if the Celtics keep fielding the same kind of crappy teams they have for over the last 10+ years, they remain a team that has had and could still ad to the dynasty. Dynasties don't have fixed beginings or endings. He also points out that the fans that voted are too stupid to know that the Canadians were a better dynasty than the Oilers (Islanders anyone, they were also tigs, uh the Red Wings who had years of dominance in the 50 and then in the 90s as well) -- but I really think that underminds his point terribly. Dynasties are about winning hearts and minds as much as games. Hockey was a smaller game when Montreal was huge, Wayne and Co were a huge part of expanding that game, just as Magic and Bird helped save the NBA by adding their part to the dynastic heritage of their clubs. It just sounds like typical Boston press sour grapes out here in the heartland.

But May's point is the Bulls dynatsy was just Jordan (and Pippen if you want to split hairs). Once he left, the franchise went kaput. The C's won titles with Russell, Cousy, Hondo, Cowens, Bird, McHale, etc. The Lakers had West, Chamberlain, Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Kobe, etc. Both franchoses have won in multiple decades. Not so for the Bulls.
