And You Wonder Why I Love This Band?
Super Furry Gruff on his impending solo record:
"It came together quite accidentally. I didn't initially plan to make a record. We're in a luxurious position as a band (Super Furry Animals) where we always have far too many songs anyway. Since we did 'Mwng' (SFA's 2000 Welsh language album) I've been collecting ideas for lyrics, and it took this long to get together."
Gruff added: "I'm considering splitting up after this record. I'm not sure exactly where, horizontally, or vertically."
Quite a turnout for John Peel's funeral.
If you don't feel like going to their website and downloading all of their songs for free, you can buy the new Brian Jonestown Massacre Greatest Hits double disc set.

I saw SFA dress up in their super furry animal getups a year or so ago at the 9:30 Club and I was generally not impressed. They're a decent band, and have some decent material, but it took them almost five minutes to put those damn suits on before they came out for their encore, and then the encore was just playing the same song they had finished the set with. Again. One quick song and they were offstage for good (probably because the damn suits were so hot under the stage lights). Their great sense of humor can't be denied, but I don't think their music or their live execution quite live up to the same level.
That Pitchfork BJM review says that the band is "hypothetically" working on their next album. The fact is that the album is done. The "best of" comp was released to take advantage of the Dig! publicity, and the new album was pushed to January 25th.
hi! thanks for your link to the morrissey solo thread...i gave you rec for this on my blog.
morrissey was, well, morrissey at his damned finest.
i can die now...
I don't wonder in the least why you love that band! The Jan. 24/25th album is acutally Rhys' solo release date not the new SFA album, unless Coolfer has an inside scoop and both albums will be released on the same day?! Are you going to see The Delgados tonight?
