I Smell Winter

Woo Hoo! Two signs that winter is upon us: 1)It's cold a fuck outside (finally) and 2) It's December 15th! For those non-NBA geeks, Dec. 15th is the offical opening of trade season as it's the first day that draft picks and free agents signed over the summer can be dealt. You may remember this day last year as the day the Ricky Davis trade went down. What will Danny do this year? We need a rebounder and a good defender at small forward. Lots of Wince Carter speculation out there (I'm looking at you Isiah Thomas) but right now the only imminent deal is Frank Williams to the Pistons, although Michael Redd might be in play.

Bah!

Theo starts making moves.

Gammons to Pedro: This will end badly.

Justice is served.

Ha! Part One and Part Two

So incredibly best evs: "If the guy next to you ever bought a Counting Crows album, punch him in the face!" This is what I got to hear at the DC show. Photo from Guided By Bob Pollard [via Chromewaves]

The Tears make their debut.

Andy Bell is HIV positive. No, not that Andy Bell.

Info on the next Doves release.

They are already naming some of the performers for SXSW.

So jealous of Catchdubs who has already copped the new Gruff Rhys record. Hello? Rough Trade? Holla at me. Check out a track by track preview by Gruff himself. Love that cover art.

Hehehehehehehe. You said Jeezy Creezy.

Hurry over to Bradley's Almanac and get those live Ted Leo tracks!

Computers make kids dumb.

Lastly, but most importantly, don't sleep on the DCist Happy Hour on Thursday evening! Be there and come say hi.

You Gruff fans will be happy to know he appears on a song on the upcoming Boom Bip album, out Feb 8th. Nina Nastasia, a Coolfer fave, also sings on a track.

More on the Gruff tip, he's also rumored to make an appearance on SXSW. (Heard two track off the solo album. V. catchy).

BILLY FUCKING IDOL AT SXSW????? And this is coming from someone who saw Billy Idol as his first concert. At least I was young and dumb. Does that explain SXSW, too? If anyone needed proof that SXSW is corporate whoredom disguised as street-cred independence, here it is.

SXSW has become a big corprate fuckfest in the last few years. It has def. gone downhill. Does anyone actually get signed there anymore? That used to be the goal for bands. Go there, play a killer show, get a deal. Granted, the business is different now.
