So Fast, So Numb
[Rant] I get less impressed with the Mozilla Firefox web browser every day that I use it. Tabbed browsing is nice but what good does it do when it crashes everytime you try to open a movie file or pdf? This is my third attempt at writing today's entry. I guess I'll have to start saving after every paragraph. Why is it so effing hard to create a decent web broswer for Windoze? But I digress...[/Rant]
Ted Leo is a rock star, but what else is new? Ted +R/X played a loud and rapid, although somewhat abbreviated set last night at the Black Cat to kick off the second leg of his Shake The Sheets tour. To the dismay of no one, the set relied primarily on material from his first two records, although he played cracking versions of Me and Mia and Little Dawn and a very loose and scattershot rendition of Shake The Sheets to close out the set. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'll ever get sick of My Vein Illin and Where Have All The Rudeboys Gone, but this was one show where I wanted him to disregard his old stuff and tackle his new material head on. Maybe tonight.
Before I get to the bad part of the night, let me try and describe how awesome the unfortunately named openers Washington Social Club were. Imagine if "garage rock" didn't sound incredibly tired and dated, then mix in some Ramones, early (read:good) Jimmy Eat World, and a large chuck of Britpop almost were's The 60 Foot Dolls and you're close to what these three lads and bass playing lass sound like. Quite simply, they kicked my ass. There is hope for the DC music scene! Only my cab ride to the Metro station kept me from picking up their CD on Badman records (you know I HAD to cop Shake The Sheets on vinyl -from Chris Leo no less- for just 8 clams). Washington Social Club, information leafblower endorsed and approved!
Now, the bad part of the evening. I know I am an old fucking codger but isn't throwing your headline act onstage at 11:30 in the PM a little late for a school night? I was dead fucking tired all night and had to leave during the encore to make the last train home. And I barely made it, by less than 2 minutes, and only because it was running late. I know not everyone in DC uses Metro to get home, but shouldn't you give your customers that option? Half the people in attendance had left halfway through Ted's set because it was midnight by the time he started his 6th song of the set. Why not start earlier and get people home sooner? But I digress....
I have a few pics from last night, but after finally arriving home at 1:22 in the AM, i didn't feel like uploading them. Maybe tonight.
Chromewaves waxes nostalgic about Ride.
Schmobvs. Honestly, does this surprise anyone?
I was at the gig and totally missed it, but the shit hit the fan in Boston last night. The C's beat the Bucks but there was some drama in the fourth when Doc Rivers lifted PP with about 4 minutes left because he wasn't getting out and running on the fast break. PP was, understandably, not a happy camper. But Doc put him in a little later and PP hit a big three pointer to help the C's pull away. This is, as they say, developing. I personally don't think it's a big issue and hope it stay that way. Doc is the coach, PP wasn't following directions. Pretty simple.
I think this will be a good thing for PP. He always plays better when he is challenged, something Fatoine Walker was never scared to do to him. GP is slowly starting to do this and the sooner he solidifies that role, the better. I hope PP doesn't take this personally and comes back brighter. Worth watching. Also worht noting...Mark Blount had a great game and PP refused to talk to the media after the game.

agreed re: late showtimes. the black cat black cat is very metro-unfriendly...they need to realize some of their patrons actually have day jobs. 930's better about that.
Was last night's timing any better? Totally agree about WSC. They're definitely a great band. Check them out when they're headlining and the crowd isn't quite so stoic. People have actually been seen dancing at their shows. Really. In DC. The cute guitar player isn't so bad to look at either.
I've never had a problem with Firefox. Great browser.
you may need to reinstall your acrobat reader and quicktime software, if you they were pre-installed after you installed firefox. common problem that would affect any new broswer install
software is free at acrobat.com & apple.com/quicktime
Why don't you just use Safari? It also has tabbed browsing and has always seemed pretty stable on my Mac.
Have faith in Firefox... I've been using it for several release cycles, and the current version is less stable than the preview release as far as I can tell. Some of the nerd community seems to agree that this is a real problem, too. I'm sure they'll get it worked out eventually.
