Ladies Love Cool Jarvis

Obvs.

Props to the WMATA bus driver that stopped about 20 yards after the bus stop this AM as he saw me sprint through traffic in the monsoon we were having. Respect.

Check out the first of many reoccuring giveaways we are having over at bluestate. First up is a signed copy of the Futureheads CD. Contest ends next Wednesday.

I was just checking something in the archives and I realized that my beloved eMac is 366 days old. Woohoo! And I know this is in bad taste given the picture above, but I wonder how Kitty is doing...

The peeps at the Pill in Beantown, including friend of information leafblower Derek as well as unofficial information leafblower correspondant Emily, give us their 2004 year in review.

Cheetah cam! So hott. Yes I am a dork. [via DCist]

Not that anyone has asked, but my fantasy basketball team, The Jiri Havliczech's, are a surprising 5th out of the 20 teams in my league. I know what you're saying,"But leaf, you know everything about basketball and have Dwyane Wade and Tim Duncan on your team, you SHOULD be near the top," and I would have to agree with you, because, let's face it, flattery gets you everywhere with me. But my team has been decimated by injuries(hello Bobby Jackson, David West and Glenn Robinson). Now comes word that my replacement for BJax, Kings gaurd Maurice Evans has sustained a concussion. That's it! No more Cowtown Kings for me.

Kobe hurt, LeBron concerned: James visited the Lakers' locker room at halftime to check on Bryant. "I just went in there to see how he was doing," James said. "He told me that he was likely going to be out for a little bit, but I hope he gets well soon. [He's] like an idol to me." Try and imagine Kobe saying that about ANYONE.

Here is a story that probably happens all the time but we never hear about it. Lakers unnerved after rocky flight.

Just like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

This is literally the funniest thing I have ever read. Seriously, I laughed out loud no fewer than 10 times. Here's part one. [via Nick Catchdubs]

Bitchfork reviews the new KCRW disc. Kinda.

Glasto DVD. Unlikely to make it to these shores.

How can you not love 1115.org? In addition to their eye opening political commentary, they drop gems like this about the new Chemical Bros. / Q-Tip joint: By this point, the Chemicals seem to have lost all of the energy that made their early releases such a guilty pleasure, and to say that Q-Tip’s vocals are phoned in would be an insult to the fine people at AT&T. Bravo gents. I have that song the Chems did with Wayne Coyne and it's not so good.

More downloads for everyone:

  • Annie - Me Plus One (mp3) - I CANNOT stop listening to this song. Loving the Daft Punk sample and how the vocals aren't pushed way up front. Highly addictive.

  • The Go Betweens - Streets Of Your Town (AAC) - A friend turned me on to these guys. This is an old track from the '80's, but it's full of Australian indiepop goodness.

  • Kasabian - Reason Is Treason (live) (mp3) - Live track taken from the band's RCA website. The more I hear of this group, the more I like. Hitting DC in Feb. with The Music.

  • Mylo - Drop The Pressure (mp3) - Some housey stuff with vocoder vocals that say "motherfucker" over and over again. Guess it doesn't take much for me. *shrug*

  • Oasis - A Bell Will Ring (live) (mp3) - One of the rumoured new tracks from the Battlin' Brothers Gallagher.

OMG, that Gossiping Bitches link just made me spit pomegranate juice all over my monitor. I'm gonna email; they owe me 35 cents, that stuff is expensive.

Don't you want Annie, baby? Don't you want her, ooooh?

Listen to emergency music. They're fantastic. A few of The Pill folks picked them for best Pill night and best local band... Get on the bandwagon early.

That Mylo track I thought was an average track on an above average album. The real track to check out is #4 where he uses some sample of what sounds like somebody testifying at congressional hearing regarding about the obscenity or vulgarity of pop music, rattling off names of 80s rock stars. To a dance beat no doubt.
