Positive Tension

I had quite the weekend, thanks for asking.

Friday night I took in the cinematic achievement that is Sin City with my roommate. This movie kicked my ass, plain and simple. I loved the black and white aesthetic and the incredible voiceovers throughout the flick. So much awesome. Powers Boothe was great! Mickey Rourke was incredible and that's an understatement. More importantly, who knew Karen Sisco was so damn hott? Jeezy Creezy. The Clive Owen story was my least favorite but I still think it added alot to the movie. Go see this movie tonight if you haven't already. I hope this means Frank Miller will be more involved with any further adaptations from his work, I'm a big fan. This DVD will be in my collection the week it's released.

Saturday I accompanied Miss Glamourpuss on a shopping spree that included a trip to the Arlington Apple Store so she could procure herself a Mac Mini. It was crazy carrying her new machine, new mouse and new keyboard all in one little shopping bag as we left the store. We went back to her place and I had that little sucker up and running in less than 10 minutes. It took longer to unpack it than it did to hook it up. Sweet. Another convert!

Saturday night, of course, was the Bloc Party gig at the Black Cat. It was PACKED near the stage (so no photos), but less so in the back so I lingered around the soundboard for most of the gig. As for the show...it was good, but it wasn't the greatest thing I'd ever seen in my life or anything. The group had a good amount of energy despite this being the end of the tour and the band was tight (Banquet was amazing), BUT, I was honestly more impressed when I saw the Futureheads. *shrug* The crowd (yes, many of whom were wearing Nautica polo shirts) was really into it and dancing throughout the show. The band seemed to enjoy themselves, so...

After the gig, I hung around outside and gave out flyers to the next bluestate gig, which is this Saturday. I spent Sunday putting together my set list and putting some of my new records through the paces. Speaking of, if you need that new Dizzee Rascal and you want it for free, we can hook you up.

If you're in NYC, go see Annie for free. Fuckers. No, I'm not bitter.

Radiohead to Warner Bros.? They really do want to be the next REM. So I guess their next few records will give them (in order of each release) their biggest hit, the best record of their career, a return to the rawk, and a misunderstood and mismarketed masterpiece before someone leaves the group and they disappear up their own asses.

Central Village has a new home. Perhaps now I will finally add them to my blog roll. My bad dude.

Oh, I almost forgot! Today your WORLD CHAMPION BOSTON RED SOX host the Yankees at Fenway for the home opener and the official ring ceremony. I actually got an email from a reader chastising me for my lack of Sox coverage, and you know what, they're right. It's not officially baseball season for me until basketball is over (although that might change after next Thursday when I travel to B'more to see said Sox take on Angelos's O's). But I am very happy for my boy Tim Wakefield who gets to pitch his first home opener in his 213 years with the club. :) And best of all, he'll pass Roger Clemens for second place all time in Fenway appearances. Roger that!

I still owe you guys some old REM songs, I haven't forgotten.

Um, it was more like 20 minutes, but Kyle still rulez! And he opens up pickle jars like nobody's business! Ladies, take note...

The Clive Owen story was better than Bruce Willis' story. But that's probably because Bruce Willis shouldn't have been cast in that role.

Either way, one of the greatest films in years.
