It Is Morning and You Are Glorious, but I Am Still Unclear About What the Story Is

I just realized I have a slight man crush on Britt Daniel. Dude is one cool fucker. How did last night's NYC in store go? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I still haven't copped Gimme Fiction, but I'm hitting up Best Buy for that $9.99 goodness before I head into the city for iPod Jukebox.

My iPod just cued up You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side and I'm fighting the urge to stand up and start dancing. Best. Moz. Song. Ever.

Oasis played six new songs at their first tour date of the year last night. That in itself is pretty damn exciting. Also of note in the setlist: Bring It On Down, Headshrinker and Songbird. Looking at the entire setlist I was pretty happy with it, but then it hit me; no Hindu Times! WTF? But mad props for an old B-side. That used to be one of the best things about seeing Oasis on their first few tours. They would break out a gem like (It's Good) To Be Free or Fade Away and it would fit in perfectly with the rest of the set. Still no Be Here Now songs though. C'mon Noel, throw me a It's Getting Better Man when I see you in D-Town!

What is wrong with the British music industry when, arguably, the greatest band to ever come out of Scotland don’t have a record deal?

I want to hear this Tom Vek record everyone is talking about.

Oh Five summer festival guide.

Damore would love this.

Speaking of Damizz, he's back on the internets where he belongs! Yay! Viva la No Buzz List!

Today is the last day to enter my Kasabian contest. Don't sleep on our weekly bluestate contest either.

I finally bought an iPod case. So far, so good.

Chucky P in the NY Times, The Guardian and interviewed by Amazon.

Now my iPod just cued up Champagne Supernova. Nice one.

Cue Nelson: Ha Ha!

John Sencio 4 eva.

Spoon in store was rad. The new songs rule and the album is their best yet! Indie Rock darling David Cross's after party was even radder.

He was spinning 80's classics (Der Komisar!) and I think he played some of the new Nada Surf album cause they were hanging with him up in the DJ booth and they played at least one clearly Nada Surf song that is not on any of their albums.

I have the Tom Vek album (actually listened to it on my way to work today) if you wanna take that listen.

I hit the very crowded in-store at Virgin yesterday. The last I paid much attention to Spoon was in the Telefono days. Saw them live a few times in the mid/late '90s. Had no interest.

Honestly, I had no idea they had turned into an indie Supertramp with polo shirts and some skronky guitar parts.

Good tunes. Gimme Fiction, so far, sounds like a solid album.

Re: Teenage Fanclub,

I think the music industry knows that the band's fanbase is what it is, and that the band doesn't need a record label to reach them. They can do it on their own.

As much as I love them, I'm one of the many who love what they used to be, not what they are now. I listened to Howdy once and never heard their last album.

The reason TF fans shake their heads at such indifference can best be explained by the reaction the band got when promoting Bandwagonesque. "The Concept" benefitted from the huge buzz and actually got into MTV's "Buzz Bin." That was at a time when anything MTV put in the Buzz Bin turned huge. They had the Midas touch. And what happened to TF? Not a whole lot.

What I'm saying is that TF is one of those bands that will always have critics writing things like, "If there was any justice in the world this band would be mega-stars." They're adored by their fans and ignored by everybody else.

Maybe some indie will pick it up and they'll reach their old fan base and sell 30k here in the States. It's not impossible.

On a related note, I remember a sticker on the first Smithereens LP when I bought it. It said something like, "If there were any justice in the world, this album would sell more copies than Thriller." Look which album ended up being regarded as a classic and definitive of the era. Ian Brown didn't cover "Billie Jean" for nothing.
