Get Down With The Sickness

| |

I had big plans going into this weekend, but I spent almost all of it fighting off an impending cold. Friday night I braved the sports bar, despite my failing health, to check out some pre-season Celtics basketball. Not the most exciting game, but I'm convinced Ryan Gomes is going to be a player in this league. If he doesn't become a starter at some point this year, I'll be shocked. Also, keep an eye on Orien Greene.

This scared me off from going into the city on Saturday, so I stayed in Arlington, had lunch with Mike and ran some errands. Saturday night I started watching my new set of Director's Label DVD's (full report coming soon) and the occasional inning or two of the MLB playoffs. Sunday was more of the same although I did make it into the city for a short while.

I also had this weird, psuedo ear infection for most of the weekend that made me apprehensive to stick on the ear goggles and make with the Podcast. It was weird, my right ear kept doing this dull popping sound thing all weekend. Could I make up any more excuses for this thing? All the new records I was gonna use for this thing are old news by now. Grumblegrumblegrumble.

Whatevs takes Bill Simmons to task (nice pic!) with his usual wit and wisdom. Although keep in mind he's a Jim Rome groupie. I keed Grambo, I keed. To each his own.

You mission today (and should you choose to accept it, you will be handsomely rewarded) is to download this Super Furry set from the John Peel concert and burn it on disc (or convert it to MP3) and hook a leafblower up! I'm serious, I will ply you with goods in exchange.

Also via Largehearted Best, Stylus plays God with The Verve's Urban Hymns, but strangely leaves off the two best songs from that era, those being "So Sister" and "Lord, I Guess I'll Never Know", one set of b-sides from the "Bittersweet Symphony" singles.

I was Morrissey's drummer.

Copycats.

Radiohead start making concert plans, but I bet they don't involve the US.

"New" Elliott Smith?

The LA Times takes a look at my new favorite band, Giant Drag. [via Coolfer, who disses them by comparing them to Letters to Cleo. Ouch!]

That sound you hear? It's Tekserve letting out a big sigh of relief. For the record, I'm a big, big fan of Tekserve. They do good work there.

So jealous.

D'town, holler at your Weinke!

The Letters To Cleo comparison wasn't a diss. Giant Drag has much, much more in common with that band (and other lightweight, somewhat edgy pop-rock bands fronted by a female) than pretty much every band mentioned in that article.

Is that a diss on Rome? C'mon, can't diss Romie the Gaucho!
