Group E is pretty tough indeed. I'm touting the czechs to be the World Cup's biggest surprise. It was a real shame they lost in the Euro 2004 semi-finals. On the other hand, if the US plays consistenly enough they might get to the knock-out stages, especially because I think Italy is going to be a huge let-down. Again!
If the US do go through to the knock-out stages, there's a fairly good chance they'll be facing Brazil. Our group is a big question mark to me though. Sure, everyone says we'll beat Croatia, Japan and Australia, but I'm more cautious. Japan have improved dramatically and Australia have some good players like Kewell. As for Croatia, I have no clue. I loved them in France '98, when they were commanded by the great Davor Suker, but now he's retired and I have no idea what their team is like.
the US will surely gets its ass beat. with a perennial powerhouse, africa's new favorite and the czechs to compete with, the outlook isn't good for the states. i'm happy, though, because i absolutely abhor the american style of play. i'm a portugal supporter myself.
