Page of 2Last Thursday I headed down to the 9:30 Club for what was just the second show I've seen all year (long story). I had heard bits and bobs of Fujiya & Miyagi's work here and there and really liked their laid back, dancey vibe, so I thought they would be worth checking out. I was not wrong. Their minimalist dance pop may not necessarily jump out of the speakers at you on CD or MP3, but live, the band has a definite cheerful, festive vibe that carried over to the audience. A small but enthusiastic crowd danced the night away to songs like "Photocopier" and "Ankle Injuries." The projections behind the stage were pretty awesome as well. All in all, a pretty good show.

He cleared up a roster spot by sending Sam Cassell to Sacramento for a future second round pick. Now we can do a 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 deal and absorb the extra player.
The trading deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. EDT.
Mrs. Leaf and I are moving apartments at the end of the month, and in the midst of packing, I put on Morrissey's Oye Esteban DVD for some background music. While I was perusing the credits I noticed a familiar name.
Zack Snyder.
As in the guy that directed 300 as well as Watchmen (out March 6th). Snyder directed Morrissey's video for "Tomorrow." Small world.
Incidentally, Morrissey's latest, Years of Refusal, is out on Tuesday. I didn't love it after one listen and my opinion hasn't changed. But lots of other people like it.

Today I got a press release about this year's Jimmy Buffet tour, which is not exactly surprising because Buffet tours every year. However, what jumped out at me is that tickets go on sale this Saturday for the two D.C.-area shows on September 3rd and September 5th. That's almost seven months before the actual show! It's not even Spring yet and tickets are about to go on sale for a Labor Day weekend show. I don't even know what shows I am going to in March!
I suspect that we will see much more of this tactic in 2009. The economy is in the shitter and that's not going to change any time soon. The big boys are going to have to stake out their territory quickly and aggressively, fighting for what is sure to be a smaller piece of the entertainment dollar pie. It's also worth noting that the press release I received did not have any ticket price info.

* Wikipedia says this song is from 2008, but it's new to me. More please.
"There were no changes to the current setlist last night. File under OBVS.
Still, an unfinished version of the video has managed to somehow leak out online It seems the reason for the delay is that there are several scenes in the video where you can see a Getty Images watermark from the photos/images that appear behind the band. That band would be U2.
Will Beckham make way for Owen?
Wake fans...obviously never been here before.
