Wow.

Pulitzer Prize Winners Announced. That first photo and the story about it is incredible.

I came in fifth in the DCist Bracket Challenge. Kansas is the first national champ I've picked correctly since 2001. And not to say "I told you so" but they totally won in spite of Bill Self. Box and One? Seriously?

D.C. United has a blog.

Everyone's is missing thew big question about the 20th Anniversary Sub Pop show. Is the original Gates/Plouf lineup of The Spinanes going to reunite? And if so, will someone please bootleg that shit?

That might finally get me to play Guitar Hero.

Never Forget.

The best thing I've heard all year? Ra Ra Riot's WOXY Lounge Acts session.

Speaking of, lookee there. Congrats, boys!

New Future Islands!

New mp3 from The Little Ones (who are, incidentally, touring with Ra Ra Riot).

Oh, almost forgot. i bought a new toy.

NewToy-1537.jpg

Sweet.

Also, Listen to MMJ at SXSW on NPR. OMG!

**UPDATE** - Holy Shit. "Thank You Too" is THE MOTHER EFFING JAM. I need an MP3 of this ASAP. It's at the 27:36 mark. Total 1970's FM rock power-ballad space-jam. Can't wait until June and Radio City!

I hope it's better than the decidedly meh R.E.M. show at Stubbs. The new stuff? Not so great.

I've also got to dig my way through Jens Lekman, The Whigs and a few others.

Here are some of the links that have been clogging up my inbox during my work-imposed blogging hiatus.

[mp3] The Mountain Goats | Sax Rohmer #1
New record HERETIC PRIDE out now.

[mp3] The Whigs | Right Hand on My Heart
Heard nothing but good things about this band, mostly from this guy. They start a short tour with the Spinto Band in the next few days.

[mp3] Ghostland Observatory | Dancin' On My Grave (Let There Be Vinyl remix)
At the 9:30 Club on March 29th.

[mp3] Nik Freitas | Sun Down
My friend (yes I'm a name dropper) Jim Fairchild can't say enough good things about Mr. Freitas. Instrumental Analysis concurs.

[mp3] These United States | First Sight
Local boys finally doing some good away from home. Can't recommend these guys enough, but you can see for yourself in March.

[mp3] Say Hi | Northwestern Girls
[mp3] Say Hi | Toil And Trouble
[mp3] Say Hi | Zero To Love
I am loving Say Hi's new album The Wishes And The Glitch. Droney, dream pop at its best. Playing the Black Cat on March 4th. I'll be there.

[mp3] Dead Meadow | I'm Gone
[mp3] Dead Meadow | What Needs Will Be
Unofficial favorite band of the Super Furry Animals. Bunf never shuts up about them.

[mp3] Bowerbirds | In Our Talon
Played the Black Cat on Sunday.

A few non-Sean Taylor related links that I haven't had a chance to put up since I got back from Seattle:

Memo to Morrissey: This is why you have a manager. Normally I wouldn't give two shits about this whole thing, except I know the journalist in question. I met Tim Jonze quite randomly when I was living in New York, at at Teenage Fanclub gig at the Bowery Ballroom. We became friends and I gave him my extra ticket when a bunch of us went to see Radiohead at Liberty State Park.

File under OBVS! Archers of Loaf: Still Really Good

And while we're strolling memory lane, Let's Interview Dillon Fence! I went and saw Dillon Fence by myself (my friends at the time were lame) on my first night at college. It was awesome.

Stream Ghostface's Big Doe Rehab. First impression: Good, but not as good as Fishscale, which I still listen to at least once a week.

M.I.A.-0587.jpg

Saw M.I.A. at the 9:30 Club on Thursday. I have seen her three times this year and I have yet to stay past the fourth song of her set. Not because I don't like the show, quite the opposite. She just has a habit of going on very, very late. And lately I tend to have meetings at work very, very early every day. Also, she performs in the fucking dark, which aggravates me to no end.

Juan Sebastian Veron to D.C United? Seriously? Yes please.

Roger Ebert's best movies of 2006.

Dean & Britta are heading back out on the road.

15 Brilliantly Timed Sports Photos. They forgot this one.
PS - Mike D. Jr. is looking pretty good this year. Finally. And while we're at it, Carlos Boozer - the best power forward in the West? Can't be right, right? Duke players suck in the pros.

I have an all day meeting today. Joy.

I figured out how to upload photos to Flickr from my Blackberry. I are smart.

Speaking of Flickr, this is the two billionth photo uploaded to Flickr. Yes, Billion. With a b.

Last night was my first Wizards game.

Let me go on record saying if you're not reading Can't Stop The Bleeding, then you are missing out. It's a must read for me lately. And no, I'm not just saying that because he's seemingly the only sports blog that doesn't bash Duke simply on principle.

Similarly, Bradley's Almanac just killing it lately. He has live sets from The National and David Bazan (complete with Radiohead cover) available for you to download. Nice one.

Speaking of killing it lately, I just want to point out that I shot Morrissey, The Police and Jay-Z in an eight day span. Not bad, eh?

New Adventures in Hi-Fi? Urban Hymns? Seriously?

Seriously?

I assume you've already seen rap represented by mathematical charts thing, right? If not, go check it out.

Thankfully I have a pretty slow week coming up as far as shows go. I'll be checking out The Soft Complex tonight at the Cat as well as ex-Gorky's Zygotic Mynci frontman Euros Childs on Wednesday. I'm debating on checking out Neil Young later in the week but I don't want to go if he's only going to play new stuff. I REALLY want to go see Ghostface and Rakim on Sunday, but it's the late show (Doors at 10) and I figure they won't even go on until well past my bedtime. Shame. That I'm an old man that is. Here are the rest of the week's shows.

After the sheer numbers of great shows that graced the city last week, this week is bound to be a let down for D.C.-area concert fans, even more so now that The Decemberists have cancelled their tour, including four, count 'em, four shows at the 9:30 Club that were scheduled to start later this week. I wonder if the club will be able to book other shows to replace them or if it will be dark during those days.

I'll be taking it fairly easy this week. On my plate: The Police, Superdrag and Bright Eyes along with the Wizards v. Nuggets game on Friday.

Due to the week ahead, I didn't even stay up all night celebrating Boston's second World Series win in four years. I have two monstrous projects bearing down on me at work and something going on Tuesday through Saturday. And to top it off, there are a ton of good shows this week. If we got all the shows on Tuesday spread over a week, I would be a happy camper. As it is, I have to choose and miss out on a lot of bands I want to see. Oh, and Morrissey's in town, D.C. United hosts the Chicago Fire in the MLS Playoffs and the Wizards home opener is Saturday. Whew. Here's the rundown:

I'm kind of regretting not being able to see ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead when they came through town last week. But at the same time, I'm not regretting staying home to watch glorious Game 7 of the ALCS. Still, from what I've read, ...Trail of Dead have gotten their fastball back (if I may use a baseball term). Here are some tunes from back in the day when they seemingly could do no wrong:
